Media Advisory - Toys for the North is celebrating its 10th anniversary: We are looking back in celebration and looking forward to delivering toys to more communities than ever before Français
TORONTO, Oct. 20, 2020 /CNW/ - We are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Toys for the North campaign! O Division Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will once again coordinate transportation and delivery of toys to children living in remote northern communities. This Christmas we will be delivering to more communities than ever before; children living in Nunavut, Newfoundland-Labrador, Northwest Territories and Ontario will all receive toys.
This year will be more challenging than usual due to Covid-19 but we, along with our partners from the Canadian Toy Association, Thomson Terminals and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) are already working to receive toys and arrange transportation and delivery.
We will not have donation boxes at our GTA detachments due to Covid-19 but we want to thank all who have contributed over the years and hope to have the donation boxes back again next year.
"As always, our focus is to deliver thousands of toys to children living in remote northern communities and although this year presents additional challenges, thanks to our partners we will be delivering gifts to more communities than ever before." Cpl. Rob Buller, RCMP Toys for the North coordinator commented.
In honour of our 10th anniversary we thought it would be fun to look back at our inaugural year. The Christmas campaign began in 2010, originating from a partnership between the Santa Claus Parade, the Canadian Toy Association, The Toronto Zoo, O Division RCMP and the Toronto RCMP Veterans Association. That year we delivered toys to northern communities in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The Canadian Toy Association and the RCAF have been partners in the campaign since 2010, "We look forward to this Christmas drive every year. In 2010 the campaign delivered $50,000 worth of toys donated by Canadian toy companies and the public and they were delivered by the RCMP to children living in forty-three northern communities. It's truly heartwarming to play a part in this amazing effort." said Graeme Bissett, Chair of the Canadian Toy Association.
Colonel Ryan Deming, 8 Wing Commander, Royal Canadian Air Force continues, "We are delighted to support the RCMP in delivering thousands of toys on our training missions to areas of our great country that are not easily accessible. The smiles of the children seeing the aircraft and then realizing it is full of toys is simply heartwarming."
Bringing smiles to kids in remote northern regions of Canada since 2010 – we couldn't be happier to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Toys for the North campaign and more importantly to once again put smiles on children's faces at Christmas.
