"We are currently experiencing a major labor shortage of school bus drivers in Quebec. The only way to attract more drivers is with better working conditions and wages," says FPSS-CSQ President Éric Pronovost. "But absolutely nothing is happening at the negotiating tables. Whether we are talking about compensation, retention bonuses, the elimination of outsourcing or the role these workers play on a daily basis with our students, all of our proposals are rejected with no counterproposals offered. After almost a year and a half of negotiations, we've had enough! And let's not forget that this same government that we are trying to negotiate with granted a $2,000 bonus to bus drivers working for private companies, deliberately excluding bus drivers employed by the school boards, thus promoting their exodus to these companies and providing a ready-made pretext to resort to outsourcing," he adds.
Remember that on February 1, the FPSS-CSQ announced that it had secured strike mandates from all its affiliated unions, including our drivers, for the equivalent of five days to be exercised at times deemed to be appropriate.
