RICHMOND HILL, ON, Nov. 27, 2022 /CNW/ - As the ongoing labour dispute at Kerry's Place enters week two, frontline staff, families and union allies will rally for safety and security so autism support workers can deliver quality services. At issue are staff who are without a single paid sick day, forcing workers like Developmental Service Workers (DSWs) to choose between losing wages or risk bringing the flu or covid into the home. Further, management continue to schedule DSWs for long 13-hour shifts. This burn-out has contributed to unsafe working conditions that expose individuals to errors and avoidable injuries. All of this is compounded by continuity of care concerns as a result of retention challenges following years of below-inflation wage restraint.
