VINELAND, ON, April 19, 2021 /CNW/ - Wine Growers Ontario (WGO) President and CEO Aaron Dobbin will be available for comment following the release of the federal government's 2021 Budget.
Wine Growers Ontario members are all sizes of wineries as well as commercial grape growers. WGO members are responsible for over 80% of all of the wine made in Ontario including Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA), 100% Canadian and International-Domestic Blend (IDB). Our industry supports over 18,000 jobs in Ontario and contributes over $750 million in taxes and markups to the federal and Ontario government each year.
In July 2020, the federal government entered a negotiated settlement with Australia and committed to repeal the longstanding excise duty exemption on Canadian wines, and committed to introducing a trade legal winery program in Budget 2021 to support regional jobs and wine country tourism.
