Petitclerc to connect with local athletes training for Rio

MONTREAL, April 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Chantal Petitclerc, Canada's Chef de Mission for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, will continue her Canadian Tour on Tuesday, April 26 with a stop in Montreal to promote Paralympic sport and local athletes on the road to Rio.

Montreal will be Petitclerc's fifth stop in a national tour that brought her to Ottawa/Gatineau in December, Calgary in January, Toronto in February and Halifax on Apr. 21.

In Montreal, Petitclerc will meet with Dimitrios (Jim) Beis, Montreal's borough Mayor and member of the Executive Committee responsible for procurement, sports, leisure and communities of diverse origins, participate in the Défi Sportif AlterGo Opening Ceremony and meet local Rio 2016 hopefuls including:

• Cindy Ouellet, world champion and Paralympian in wheelchair basketball
• Aurélie Rivard, Paralympic silver medallist and world record holder in swimming
• Benoit Huot, 19-time Paralympic medallist in swimming

Petitclerc's cross-country tour will encompass eight Canadian cities until June 2016, aiming to build awareness of Canadian Paralympic athletes.
