MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO AND INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY - Architectural firms to unveil design concepts for new tall wood, net positive building on Toronto's Waterfront
George Brown College enters final stage in selection of design concept for The Arbour
TORONTO, March 22, 2018 /CNW/ - Four internationally-renowned architectural/design firms are set to showcase their innovative design concepts for the construction of The Arbour, a new tall wood, net positive building at George Brown College's waterfront campus, marking another step forward in the development of Canadian mid-rise structures using mass timber.
Poised to bring the first tall wood structure to Toronto's skyline, The Arbour joins George Brown College's existing LEED gold certified Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences as an example of its continued commitment to sustainable development and green building construction. The planned 12-storey, low carbon facility will be a unique landmark in the East Bayfront community, housing a tall wood building research institute, George Brown's School of Computer Technology and a new child care facility to serve the growing new community. The Arbour is expected to be net-positive, reducing the college's carbon footprint, and in turn, lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Once built, students and researchers will learn to design, construct, operate and monitor climate-friendly buildings.
