TORONTO, Nov. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Investor Education Fund (IEF), a leading non-profit organization promoting financial literacy to Canadians, kicked off its 2nd Annual Financial Literacy Youth Summit: an afternoon of inspired financial learning that's helping to launch November as Financial Literacy Month in Canada.
The teen money summit started with a rousing welcome from Master of Ceremonies and 4Life Foundation Program Director Joseph Khargie, who brought along two student DJs to invigorate the audience with an entertaining DJ Battle. The high energy activities continued and the audience of more than 400 Toronto high school students were treated to an exclusive IEF/IIROC presentation of Funny Money with comedian James Cunningham, a specialist in youth financial education. The presentation was filled with jokes, role playing, fun facts and figures about money - and a bit of free cash encouraging students to take a hard look at their money management know-how and laugh their way to the bank. His unconventional 45-minute interactive lecture on spending, saving and credit is helping a new generation of young Canadians turn their money challenges into savvy investments for a healthy financial future.
The Financial Literacy Youth Summit is an annual event that is designed to be a crash course for high school students about the importance of understanding how money works and managing their personal finances.
