Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity - A Night to Remember: Music legend Nana Mouskouri to attend gala supporting SickKids International work in Greece
WOODBRIDGE, ON, Oct. 21, 2014 /CNW/ - Join us Thursday, October 23 for A Night to Remember, a fundraising gala supporting the SickKids-Greece initiative for the advancement of paediatric oncology research, education and care in Greece.
A Night to Remember will feature a performance by Greek music legend Nana Mouskouri. Over a career stretching almost 60 years, Mouskouri has sold more than 300 million albums. While in Toronto for the gala, she will also be visiting SickKids to meet with clinical leaders and tour the hospital's haematology/oncology unit.
This event occurs during the 46th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), being held in Toronto from October 22 to 25. The vision of SIOP is both simple and powerful - that no child should die from cancer.
All funds raised at this event support the SickKids-Greece Initiative, established to improve outcomes for children facing cancer, and endure excellence in cancer research, education, and care benefiting the people of Greece and the surrounding Balkan region. A Night to Remember was made possible through the generous support of the following major donors: byPeterandPauls.com, Cinespace Film Studios, Krinos Foods, and Eldorado Gold.

About the SickKids-Greece Initiative:
The incidence of childhood leukemia in Greece is among the highest in the European Union (EU)—approximately 19 per cent above the EU average—putting tremendous pressure on the country's healthcare resources.
Since 2012, SickKids International has been working to develop a strong relationship with Aghia Sofia Children's Hospital in Athens, with a focus on establishing its Children's Oncology Department MARIANNA V. VARDINOYANNIS - ELPIDA (C.O.D. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis) as a regional centre of excellence. This centre sees approximately 280 new cases of cancer each year. Through this collaboration, SickKids will support Aghia Sofia by helping institute standards of care and provide clinical consultation, advisory services and education.
