#99 - Wayne Gretzky to help unveil world's most advanced robot system
TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2011 /CNW/ - Hockey's "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky (#99) will be at Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH) on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 for the unveiling of the da Vinci Surgical System (aka "The Robot"), to help treat patients with prostate cancer.
With his appearance, Gretzky brings important awareness to this revolutionary technology, the world's most advanced robot system that allows for minimally invasive removal of the prostate. TEGH will be one of the first community hospitals in Canada to acquire "The Robot".
Through the acquisition of "The Robot" and a partnership with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, TEGH will become the training ground for the next generation of robotic prostate surgeons. The training program will establish TEGH's definitive provincial leadership in men's health.
Generous donor support has helped to fund "The Robot", with only one million dollars left to raise in the five-million-dollar initiative. Wayne Gretzky's appearance at TEGH will help to boost the Foundation to its goal.
