Women's baseball to make international multi-Games debut in Canada
AJAX, ON, April 3, 2013 /CNW/ - The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) alongside its government partners will announce funding and venue details for the Ajax Pan Am Ballpark on Wednesday, April 3. The announcement will outline the major upgrades to the facility which will host all baseball and softball competitions during the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games.
Ajax Pan Am Ballpark will have a full schedule in July 2015 as TO2015 welcomes back men's softball and celebrates the debut of women's baseball. The Canadian men's softball team will see a return to action at TORONTO 2015 as defending Pan Am gold medallists, having won seven straight until 2003.
At the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, the men's baseball team won their first gold medal in the event and the women's softball team took home a silver medal, their fourth consecutive second-place finish.
Joining TO2015 will be Canadian women's baseball team members Vanessa Riopel and Ashley Stephenson, celebrating the inclusion of women's baseball — a first for international multi-sport Games.
Media will have an opportunity to interview officials and athletes after the announcement.
