Media Alert - Adding to the #McFamily: McDonald's® Hires over 6,700 Employees across Canada during Fifth Annual National Hiring Day

TORONTO, April 30, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, McDonald's Canada and its franchisees released the results from its one-day recruitment blitz held on April 15^th, and are pleased to welcome over 6,700 full and part-time crew and restaurant management employees.  This year's results exceeded the 2015 target goal by 246 people.  

Started in 2011, McDonald's Canada was the first quick service restaurant to establish an annual one-day hiring event, and since then, 28,000 people have joined McDonald's restaurant teams as part of this initiative. 

"With youth unemployment numbers nearly double the national average, a first job at McDonald's provides an opportunity for young people to gain critical work experience," said Sharon Ramalho, Chief People Officer at McDonald's Canada. "The important 'soft skills' that they learn when working with us, like communication, teamwork, customer service and goal setting, only act as a springboard for future successes throughout their careers and lifetime."

By the numbers:

• 6,746: the number of new crew and restaurant management employees hired on April 15, 2015
• 2,810: the number of new employees hired in Ontario
• 2,057: the number of new employees hired in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces
• 1,879: the number of new employees hired in Western Canada
• 83%: the percentage of McDonald's 85,000 employees that are Millennials
• 71%: the percentage of McDonald's restaurant management employees that are Millennials
