MEDIA ALERT - Giving Tuesday photo op with leading supporters of $120,000 campaign to clean Canada's arctic
AURORA, ON, Dec. 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Summerhill Impact launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $120,000 to clean Canada's arctic through our Tundra Take-Back program. Stepping up to the plate to kick off the campaign is the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC), with a $25,000 contribution.
Today, on Giving Tuesday, Summerhill Impact will be making a fundraising plea to secure the remaining online donations needed to reach the $120,000 mark - the amount needed to clean up one remote arctic community in Canada.
ARC member company and Tundra Take-Back pilot project on-site participants, Carcone's Auto Recycling and Wheel Refinishing, is available for comment and photo opportunity for Giving Tuesday. Carcone's General Manager, Claudio Russo, was on-site this summer in Arviat, Nunavut where Summerhill Impact ran an incredibly successful pilot recycling project.
Why this opportunity?
At the time of writing this advisory, Summerhill Impact has received 22% of the total funds needed to continue our work with our Tundra Take-Back program to clean up Canada's north. The Automotive Recyclers of Canada helped get us started and we know some media attention on Giving Tuesday will help us reach our total fundraising goal.
Summerhill Impact's Tundra Take-Back track record:
Summerhill Impact ran a massively successful pilot project earlier this year with these impressive achievements:
- 10 community members trained and mentored in recycling and hazardous waste management in two Arctic communities: Arviat and Gjoa Haven;
- 80 end-of-life vehicles de-polluted over the course of ten days;
- 31 metric tonnes of recyclables and hazardous wastes extracted and recycled (highlights include the recovery of over 1,000 batteries, approximately 2,000 tires and over 20 barrels of automotive fluids); and,
- A sustainable model for recycling in northern regions was made possible, by working with local companies/organizations, including the Automotive Recyclers of Canada, who provided discounts or other types of in-kind contributions to offset the costs of this work.
