guest at the Canadian Film Centre's salute to Black History Month
Daniels to join film legend Norman Jewison and Canadian filmmaker
Who: Critically acclaimed African-American filmmaker Lee Daniels, (director, PRECIOUS: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, producer, MONSTER'S BALL) will join Academy Award(R)-nominated filmmaker and CFC founder Norman Jewison (IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, A SOLDIER'S STORY, THE HURRICANE) and African-Canadian award-winning filmmaker, Clement Virgo (RUDE, POOR BOY'S GAME) for an intimate evening that will "Celebrate the Black Experience in Cinema". What: To commemorate Black History Month, CFC (Canadian Film Centre) will host an evening that will "Celebrate the Black Experience in Cinema". Presented by TD, the evening begins with an inspiring conversation about black representation in cinema. Following the discussion, audiences will enjoy a special screening of the 1967 classic "IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT", directed by Norman Jewison. This critically acclaimed five-time Oscar-winning film, starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, signaled a shift in the depiction of the black hero at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. When: Tuesday, February 9th 6 p.m. - Photo op/media wall 7 p.m. - Discussion with Lee Daniels, Norman Jewison, Clement Virgo 8:15 - Brief intermission 8:30 - Screening of IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT Where: Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles Street West, Toronto.
