Media Alert/Photo Opportunity - Canadian landmark to twinkle blue and green
in support of affordable housing
WHAT: The United Nations declares the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. WHY: Even though 87 per cent of Canadians believe that access to affordable housing should be a basic human right, every day one million people are forced to make the unthinkable choice between shelter and other basic needs, such as food and clothing. Canada is the only G8 country without a national housing policy. The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights declared this state of homeless and inadequate housing a national emergency. As a developed nation, this is a problem we have a responsibility to fix. WHERE: Niagara Falls, 6650 Niagara Pky, Niagara Falls, Ontario WHEN: Monday, October 5th, 2009 7:00pm photo opportunity outside Table Rock Restaurant. Illumination for the first 15 minutes of every hour will be blue and green until 11:00pm.
