Media Bulletin: Polling Hours Extended for Poll 19 in the Scarborough--Rouge River By-Election

TORONTO, Sept. 1, 2016 /CNW/ - Polls successfully opened in Scarborough—Rouge River this morning, with one poll reporting minor delays. As a result, polling hours for Poll 19 at the Alexmuir Jr. Public School voting location have been extended to 9:30 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time). There are five other polls at this voting location that will close at 9 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time).

The returning officer for the electoral district of Scarborough—Rouge River has been directed to extend voting hours at Poll 19 by Ontario's Chief Electoral Officer, Greg Essensa.

The affected poll is:

Alexmuir Jr. Public School (Poll 19)

• Voting extended by 30 minutes to 9:30 p.m. (EST)

Section 40 (5) of the Ontario Election Act provides for the Chief Electoral Officer to extend the closing time of a poll if voting is interrupted during polling hours. Polling hours normally run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET.

Once the polls have closed at 9:00 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time), live election results will start to become available on the Elections Ontario website elections.on.ca. Election results for Poll 19 will be released after 9:30 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time) when the poll has closed. Live results posted this evening are unofficial.
