PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Feb. 1, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - On Tuesday, February 5th, the media are invited to Development and Peace's inauguration of the first 50 houses of its housing re-construction project in Ti Boucan, in the commune of Gressier, Haiti. In total, 400 houses will be built. At the ceremony, 50 families that were victims of the devastating earthquake of January 12th, 2010, will receive the keys and titles to their new homes.
This project is jointly funded by Development and Peace and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). It is being carried out in Haiti in collaboration with our partner, the Institut de technologie et d'animation communautaire (ITECA) — a Haitian organization that has been operating in Gressier for 25 years — and in partnership with local authorities in the area.
In addition to the families, there will also be in attendance representatives of the Haitian government who supported the project's implementation, the Canadian Ambassador accompanied by representatives of CIDA in Haiti, as well as a delegation from Development and Peace.
The total project budget is approximately $6.5 million, including CIDA's contribution of approximately $4.9 million and $1.6 million from Development and Peace's own funds.
