Concordia-based human rights initiative gains momentum
MONTREAL, Sept. 20, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson will designate Monday, September 24, "Will to Intervene" Day in the City of Ottawa. The proclamation appeals to the civic duty of Canadians, calling on us to help prevent mass atrocities and make "never again" a reality.
The Will to Intervene Project (W2I) is an important Canadian initiative established by Concordia University's Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS). The ongoing crisis in Syria demostrates that governments must revisit their role on the international stage to prevent mass atrocity crimes.
The event will feature a panel discussion with Senator Roméo Dallaire, former Canadian Ambassador to the UN Paul Heinbecker, and former Member of Parliament David Kilgour. The CBC's Evan Solomon will moderate the discussion.
