Media invitation - Polytechnique announces the second winner of the Order of the White Rose in tribute to the victims of December 6, 1989 Français
MONTRÉAL, Dec. 5, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Polytechnique Montréal cordially invites media representatives to attend the presentation of the second annual $30,000 Order of the White Rose scholarship, awarded to a Canadian woman engineering student who wishes to enrol in graduate studies in engineering (master's or PhD) at the institution of her choice in Canada or elsewhere in the world. The ceremony will be held in the presence of the Polytechnique community and with Hélène David, Québec Minister Responsible for Higher Education, in attendance, on Monday, December 5, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Galerie Rolland, on the 6th floor of Polytechnique's main building.
The Order of the White Rose was established in 2014 as part of the activities marking the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of December 6, 1989, which claimed the lives of 14 young women and injured several others. Polytechnique created this scholarship as a tribute to the victims as well as the injured, their families, faculty members, employees and students who are forever affected by this tragedy.
A prestigious jury composed of principals, presidents or deans of Canadian universities and led by Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, Principal and Chair of the Polytechnique Board of Directors and Polytechnique Montréal's first female civil engineering graduate, reviewed the applications submitted and came to a unanimous choice.
To present the scholarship to this new recipient, Polytechnique Chief Executive Officer Christophe Guy will be joined by Ms. David and the two Order of the White Rose ambassadors: Ms. Thibodeau-DeGuire and Nathalie Provost, a Polytechnique graduate who was injured in the tragedy.
