Media invitation - The future of aircraft design takes wing - Launch of the
NSERC-J.-Armand Bombardier-Pratt & Whitney Canada Industrial Research Chair
in Integrated Design toward Efficient Aircraft (IDEA), Friday, April 23,2010
MONTREAL, April 21 /CNW Telbec/ - In the coming decades, research and development in aircraft design will mainly target reductions in fuel burn, pollutant emissions and noise. Accordingly, new data will be required to support design activities for innovative configurations. The aviation industry will also require new, more integrated design methods to realize the full potential of the synergies between aerodynamics and propulsion systems.
All of this forms the backdrop for creation of the NSERC-J.-Armand Bombardier-Pratt & Whitney Canada Industrial Research Chair in Integrated Design toward Efficient Aircraft (IDEA). The new chair will focus on developing next-generation integrated design methods that can be used to develop more efficient aeronautical components. By doing so, the chair will also help maintain and strengthen Montréal's position as a hub of research and top-notch aviation activity.
Christophe Guy, Chief Executive Officer of École Polytechnique de Montréal, and Professor Jean-Yves Trepanier are pleased to invite media representatives to the official launch ceremony for the NSERC-J.-Armand Bombardier-Pratt & Whitney Canada Industrial Research Chair in Integrated Design toward Efficient Aircraft (IDEA). Also in attendance will be representatives of the Chair's partners: the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the J.-Armand Bombardier Foundation, Bombardier Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney Canada.
