MEDIA INVITATION - Angels Unawares: A sculpture in solidarity with migrants presented at Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal Français
MONTREAL, Oct. 31, 2022 /CNW Telbec/ - A monumental bronze sculpture depicting 140 migrants and refugees by Canadian artist and sculptor Timothy Schmalz will be unveiled at Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
The Rector of Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, Father Michael DeLaney, CSC, invites members of the media to the unveiling in the presence of the artist, organizations at the service of immigrant communities, donors and members of the Oratory staff.
Named Angels Unawares from a verse in the Letter to the Hebrews (13:2): Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares, the sculpture is being shown for the very first time in Canada. It refers to the duty of hospitality and solidarity of every human being towards migrants. A reproduction is already on display at the Vatican.
St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, whose staff and visitors include many people of diverse cultural and racial backgrounds in the multicultural neighbourhood of Côte-des-Neiges, will host the 3.5-ton, 6-metre-long, 3.6-metre-high, 2.4-metre-wide sculpture for one year, offering an opportunity for the public to admire and reflect upon its meaning.
