10 years of Paul Gérin-Lajoie Award for Diversity
Since 2009, the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Award – named after the first Québec Minister of Education who initiated some of the most important transformations that have made Québec what it is today – has been recognizing the dedication of prominent figures in promoting values of tolerance and fighting discrimination. ENSEMBLE highlights each year exemplary and exceptional initiatives that stand out as advocates of tolerance and respect.
This year, in a society where rising intolerance and xenophobia contribute to more and more hatred and violence, we decided to praise key actors who dedicated their lives to remembrance. When it comes to respect for human rights, we are aware we cannot take anything for granted. This is why the 2019 Paul Gérin-Lajoie Award commends our duty to remember and remain vigilant. In their speech and endeavours, Mr. Léon Celemencki, Ms. Alanis Obomsawin and the Honorable Juanita Westmoreland-Traoré have reminded us how important it is to understand, engage and explain. They make sure we never forget the tragic history of the Holocaust, the First Nations and the Slave Trade.
An Evening Profiting Diversity and Inclusion
This fundraising event aims to gather 400 key actors from Montréal's business community during a cocktail reception and to raise $180,000 in order for ENSEMBLE to conduct their activities within schools: Caravans of Tolerance, Tiered Projects & Imprint Projects.
This networking event will also include a silent and live auction, profits from which will go to ENSEMBLE for the respect of diversity.
