Media Invitation: Second Harvest and Sodexo Host 200 Children in Summer Camps at BBQ in Jane/Finch Neighbourhood
BBQ Brings Attention to Child Hunger and Feeding Our Future program
TORONTO, July 27, 2015 /CNW/ -
Who: 200 hungry children from Toronto city camps.
What: Second Harvest, Sodexo and volunteers will feed hungry campers at the Feeding Our Future BBQ.
Where: Driftwood Community Recreation Centre, 4401 Jane Street, Toronto, M3N 2K3 (closest intersection Jane & Finch)
When: Wednesday, July 29th, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.
Why: To provide kids in city camps with a special BBQ, and highlight the Feeding Our Futureprogram, raising awareness of child hunger in Toronto.
The Feeding Our Future program was developed by Sodexo in response to children going hungry over the summer months. Inner-city parents were reluctant to sign up their children for free summer camps because they couldn't afford to provide them with lunches to take along for the day. Many of these children rely on free or subsidized lunches throughout the school year but go hungry in the summer months. Second Harvest and Sodexo collaborate on Feeding Our Future, with funding provided by The Geoffrey H. Wood Foundation, toprovide approximately 40,000 lunches to Toronto kids over the summer.
