Media Invite - Groups representing English-speaking Quebec gather to take stock and move forward

MONTREAL, June 13, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - This weekend the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) will hold a jam-packed annual meeting in Montreal.

On Friday the QCGN will take advantage of the presence of members from across the province to launch the winning videos for our My Quebec Roots contest for high school students at 11:45. Organized by the QCGN and CBC Quebec and co-sponsored by the English-Language Arts Network (ELAN), the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN), and the Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA), the video contest encouraged young Quebecers to get in touch with their roots and share the unique stories of their families and communities.

The appetizer for lunch will be a visit from Victor and Sheila Goldbloom who will be on hand to launch the call for nominations for our annual Distinguished Community Service Award. After lunch our two candidates for the post of QCGN president, Walter Duszara and Daniel Lamoureux, will get a chance to meet the membership before Saturday's vote.

Saturday will begin with the launch of the Community Development Plan entitled "Working Together for a Vital Community". The plan, which sets priority actions for Quebec's English-speaking Community, is the culmination of the Strategic Priorities Forum that included 19 regional and sectoral consultations, five focus groups and an online survey of more than 550 English-speaking Quebecers that ended with our first provincial Community Priority Setting Conference in March.

Before the Network gets down to business during its Annual General Meeting around 11 a.m., members will also be treated to the premiere of the music video for the Notre Home anthem - watch teaser here - for English-speaking Quebec that was launched at the March conference. On hand for the premiere will be video participants including songwriter David Hodges and members of the band Honest Family, a collective of Montreal artists fusing hip-hop, rock and soul.

The Quebec Community Groups Network (www.qcgn.ca) is a not-for-profit organization bringing together 38 English-language community organizations across Quebec.
