Facts about CP in this city
- The arrival on October 9th, 1877, three and a half years before the formation of Canadian Pacific Railway, of the steam locomotive the Countess of Dufferin, six flatcars and a caboose in Winnipeg marked a new era of development for western Canada.
- Winnipeg would become CPR's gateway to the Prairies, where finished goods and people flowed in and wheat, grain and livestock flowed out. CPR employed thousands here and invested heavily in railway shops, yards and infrastructure.
