GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 8, 2013 /CNW/ - On November 19th, Parks Canada will launch the book Lost Beneath the Ice, the story behind HMS Investigator and its 1850's tragic mission to rescue the crew of Sir John Franklin's lost ships.
The perils of exploration in the Canadian Arctic are explained in a captivating text written by Andrew Cohen and with the first-ever photos of the shipwreck taken by Parks Canada's archaeologists following their discovery.
We offer you the opportunity to develop an original story about this new Parks Canada book and the incredible journey of HMS Investigator.
Marc-André Bernier and Ryan Harris, of Parks Canada's underwater archaeology team, are available to give you a first-hand account of their diving in the icy Arctic Ocean waters to explore this shipwreck.
These experts will tell you the story and the events leading up to the discovery of this amazingly well-preserved ship 160 years after it was lost. You will learn more about this fateful voyage with artifacts, photos and HD footage of the underwater vessel.
Please visit a special section on Lost Beneath the Ice on Parks Canada's website at www.pc.gc.ca/eng/culture/expeditions/livre-book.aspx for information on the book.
