Media Statement - Greyhound Canada encouraged by decision from Transport

TORONTO , Oct. 23 /CNW/ - Greyhound Canada today issued the following statement in light of news that federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Transport have agreed to form a Working Group to review and modernize the regulatory framework governing Canada's passenger bus service system:

    
    "Greyhound Canada is encouraged that federal, provincial and territorial
    Ministers of Transport have agreed to establish a Working Group to review
    and modernize the regulatory framework governing Canada's passenger bus
    service.

    A review is needed to properly reform a complex set of policies and
    regulatory burdens that were established some fifty-six years ago.
    Changes are required to reflect the current and future priorities of
    customers, intercity bus operators and the financial climate. Greyhound
    Canada is confident that the Working Group's efforts will generate needed
    change.

    Greyhound Canada looks forward to working with governments on this review
    over the course of the coming months. In the meantime, the company will
    meet with provincial governments to seek interim solutions with respect
    to immediate operational and service issues on a jurisdiction by
    jurisdiction basis."
