MONTREAL, May 21, 2015 /CNW/ - For three days, the country's medical laboratory professionals will come together to learn, inspire and connect during the premier medical laboratory conference, LABCON2015. This year, the conference is held in Montreal, Quebec from May 22 – 24 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth hotel.
Hosted by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), this annual conference attracts over 300 laboratory professionals and students for educational sessions and hands-on workshops.
"Every year we raise the bar," says CSMLS Chief Executive Officer, Christine Nielsen. "This year, LABCON has speakers from government agencies, educational and health care institutes from across the country. They are educating our delegates on everything from Ebola, to budget cuts, to the health human resource crisis."
The conference gives medical laboratory professionals tangible tools to use in the workplace, along with current research and news on health care issues affecting their profession. Delegates come from across the country to share best practices and strategies to manage the ever-changing landscape of laboratory science.
LABCON2015 officially begins with the Opening Ceremonies on Friday May 22. Scientific sessions, workshops and tradeshows will take place over the three days, concluding on Sunday May 24.
"Lab professionals perform over 1.2 million lab tests every day in Canada, and each one of those tests has a direct effect on someone's health," says CSMLS President, Tania Toffner. "These are highly skilled and educated health care professionals and the CSMLS is proud to offer them professional development through LABCON."
"This annual event is one way that the CSMLS brings the medical laboratory community together," says Nielsen. "Connecting this professional community is important to strengthening the role lab professionals play within the entire health care system."
The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science is the national certifying body for medical laboratory technologists and medical laboratory assistants, and the national professional society for Canada's medical laboratory professionals. Incorporated in 1937 as the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists, the society has over 14,000 members in Canada and in countries around the world.
