Medical Marijuana Crusader Aims to Become Canada's First Licensed Producer

VANCOUVER, July 22, 2013 /CNW/ - A crusader in medical marijuana in Vancouver and Toronto is taking the first step in becoming one of Canada's first licensed medical marijuana providers under new Health Canada regulations, announced last month.

Today, Sam Mellace, and his lawyer, began Health Canada's formal application process. Mellace is seeking government approval to distribute medical marijuana across Canada.

"I'm hopeful my application will be approved by the end of the summer," said Sam Mellace, Operations Manager of New Age Medical Solutions Inc., in Vancouver and Toronto. "When it is, Canadians will have access to medical marijuana that meets stringent requirements, at less cost."

Under Health Canada's new regulations, licensed producers will be the only source for approximately 30,000 Canadians who currently participate in Health Canada's Medical Marijuana Access Program.

"We applaud Health Canada's new regulations," said Stacey Nichols, of Neuberger Rose, LLP, the lawyer representing Mellace in his formal application process. "The new regulations and licensing go a long way in ensuring quality control and better access for Canadians who benefit from medical marijuana."

Mellace's licensed growing operation in British Columbia has the capacity to produce up to 50 kilograms of medical marijuana per month. Mellace has been licensed by Health Canada as both a patient, and grower since 2003, and has been active in lobbying for better access to medical marijuana for many years.

Mellace has been featured in National Geographic, as one of the most sophisticated medical marijuana growers in the world.
