MONTREAL, Dec. 18, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Yesterday, MEGA® Brands Inc., a part of the Mattel family of brands (NASDAQ: MAT), presented a corporate donation of $80,000 to the CHU Sainte-Justine. During the ceremony, Mattel-MEGA also unveiled a unique gift for the mother-and child university health center: a giant replica of Cachou, Sainte-Justine's kangaroo mascot built entirely out of Mega Bloks, which is currently on display in the Hospital's main entrance. Mattel-MEGA's special guest, Barbie™, was also on-site to visit children and hand out Mega Bloks gifts.
Mattel-MEGA's donation is only a part of the Holiday initiatives that were organized by the company for the CHU Sainte-Justine this December. During the week of December 15, Mattel-MEGA opened a free toy store for the families of in-house patients. Recognizing that parents who spend their days by their child's bedside have little time for Holiday shopping, Mattel-MEGA decided to give them the opportunity to choose a gift from among 1,200 toys in the temporary shop set up in the Hospital.
On December 4, a team of Mattel-MEGA employee volunteers visited the young patients. In addition to providing festive decorations and inviting children to personalize and hang tree ornaments, the employees hosted a movie and pyjama party in the Hospital's Celine Dion amphitheater.
"At Mattel, we know that play contributes to the healing of a sick child and to proper early-childhood development. With the help of our newest family members at MEGA Brands, we are honored to support the largest mother-and child university hospital in Canada, the CHU Sainte-Justine", said Robert Goodwin, Executive Director of the Mattel Children's Foundation. "Partnering with this reputable institution as well as donating MEGA's Canadian-made toys to partner hospitals across the globe ensures we can spread the healing power of play, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children."
"The CHU Sainte-Justine is about much more than providing care, especially at this time of year, when every child and family needs an extra dose of comfort, warmth and courage to get through their ordeal. The Foundation thanks Mattel for its donation and its generous contribution to help humanize care at Sainte-Justine," said Maud Cohen, president and executive director of the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation.
