Member of Parliament Stephen Woodworth Announces Support for Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound Français
KITCHENER, ON, Oct. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Stephen Woodworth, Member of Parliament (Kitchener Centre), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound.
"This presenter of new music and creative sound brings together unique programming that enriches our community," said Mr. Woodworth "I look forward to the upcoming festival, and I am pleased the Government of Canada is supporting the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound in providing a wide range of cultural experiences year after year."
The funding will support the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound that will take place in June 2014. The festival features contemporary music, sound installations and musique actuelle at various locations in Kitchener.
"Our Government is proud to invest in organizations that give Canadians access to live professional artistic experiences," said Minister Glover. "We recognize that arts and cultural organizations strengthen our communities and are important generators of economic growth, jobs and wealth in our communities."
"As a festival that presents primarily new or recent works by artists not known to the general public, we have to be creative in our approach and willing to stretch our resources to our limits," said Cheryl A Ewing, General Manager of Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound. "This is why the support from the Government of Canada is tremendous, both financially and for our morale. It allows Open Ears to engage our community in ways that would not otherwise be possible."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $30,000 for 2014-15 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
