OAKVILLE, ON, Oct. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Terence Young, Member of Parliament (Oakville), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the Corporation of the Town of Oakville's Big Ticket Presentation Series at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.
"The Big Ticket Presentation Series offers high-quality performances that enrich our community," said Mr. Young. "I am pleased that our Government supports the Town of Oakville in providing a wide range of cultural experiences, and I look forward to the upcoming seasons."
The funding will support the 2014 and 2015 Big Ticket Presentation Series of live performances featuring music, theatre, dance, comedy, circus, and children's programming. With this investment, the Town of Oakville will also offer activities to attract youth and enhance audience appreciation, such as workshops, master classes, and post-show artist talks.
"Our Government is proud to invest in organizations that give Canadians access to live professional artistic experiences," said Minister Glover. "We recognize that arts and culture are important generators of economic growth, jobs, and wealth in our communities."
"The Government's Canada Arts Presentation Fund has awarded us the ability to bring diverse artists to our theatre and further enhance the creativity and expression of performing arts in our community. We are honoured to be part of this extraordinary program," said Ronnie Brown, Coordinator of Marketing and Development, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Recreation and Culture. "There is no greater satisfaction than the gratitude of our audience and the appreciation of the artists as they come together."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $130,000 ($65,000 in 2014-2015 and $65,000 in 2015-2016) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
