Mental Health App for Youth to Demo at One Young World Conference in Ottawa
OTTAWA, Sept 26, 2016 /CNW/ - The future of mental health support is about to be revolutionized for youth in Ottawa and across Canada.
Meet the future of mental health for youth next week in Ottawa. The Kanata-based Terrace Wellness Group will be demonstrating its revolutionary prototype app at the One Young World Summit from Sept 28- Oct. 1, 2016.
The Terrace Wellness Group team have already helped over 1,000 local families through and bring 20 years of experience to the table.
Executive Director Terri Storey explains, "Traditional mental health delivery is struggling to adapt to the changing landscape and increased prevalence. The traditional model struggles to be in the right place at the right time." Families nation-wide want interventions that meet their needs with 'on-demand' counselling options.
This app was created in partnership with Ottawa-based award-winning developers at lctinus. The "Snapclarity" app will revolutionize support for youth with mental health and wellness needs both in Ottawa and across the country.
According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, "In any given year, one in five people in Canada experiences a mental health problem or illness, with a cost to the economy of well in excess of $50 billion." In addition, "Up to 70% of young adults living with mental health problems report that the symptoms started in childhood."
Our children and families deserve the right type of help. They need support delivered in the right place, and at the right time. Ms. Storey says that from aboriginal communities to our local communities they have heard one thing: "We want better support for our children and ourselves." Snapclarity is the solution. The goal is to get this app into the hands of at-risk teens no matter where they live. No more waiting lists and geographical limitations.
How it works: The app works from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. Youth are linked to a registered therapist. This is huge for isolated communities where climate/fiscal constraints impact aid.
Release of the full app is anticipated in 2017.
