TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network announced that a record-breaking total of 4,191 units were delivered throughout the month of September. These excellent results represented a month-over-month increase of 6.6% or 261 additional units, resulting in Mercedes-Benz Canada's best September ever. Year-to-date total sales at the end of a record 3rd quarter now stand at 33,713 units, up 14.4%.
A total of 3,586 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks were retailed this month. This was ahead of last September's results by 11.3%, bringing sales to 29,410 vehicles this year. A total of 1,874 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were delivered for the month, up 7.5%. This result was strengthened by another good month for the C-Class, E-Class and S-Class models.
On the luxury light trucks side, sales were up by a solid 15.8% for the month with a total of 1,712 units sold. The excellent performance was fueled by strong results for the Mercedes-Benz SUV line-up and continued demand for the GLA, M, GLK and GL Classes as well as the newly launched GLE SUV and GLE Coupe.
Mercedes-Benz Vans dethroned its previous 500-unit best month with a new record of 566 Sprinter units delivered in September. This represents a 23.0% increase for the month, and pushed year-to-date growth for the division to 16.8% or 539 more units, with 3,751 vans retailed. This is a particularly rewarding finale for the last month of Sprinter sales alone. As of October, the Mercedes-Benz Vans sales will also include numbers for the brand new midsize Metris commercial van.
The diesel take rate for luxury cars and light trucks was 74.8%, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 93.7% of overall passenger car and light truck sales (excluding smart).
smart reported a total of 39 vehicles sold in September.
The Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned division reported its best September sales ever with 1,503 units, for an increase of 6.9% when compared to last year. These results represent a year-to-date increase of 9.1% with a total of 11,881 units sold this year. Certified Pre-Owned sales grew by 5.2% for the month and by 13.3% for the year, accounting for 81.7% of the total pre-owned volume.
"With the fall finally upon us after an epic summer, we are happy to wind up a record third quarter. I am also very pleased with our best September results ever recorded," said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "Despite a difficult month for the industry, there is nonetheless tremendous momentum with the build out of our 2015 model year vehicles and the arrivals of the 2016's. We are excited to welcome the arrival of the new Metris midsize commercial van which will perfectly complement the Sprinter." He added, "We still have a strong lead so far in the luxury segment which wills us more than ever to maintain that pace for the next few months. We have the product, the programs and a highly committed dealer network to help us achieve this objective."
