MeteoGroup to acquire The Weather Network Commercial Services Division from Pelmorex Media Inc. Français
Acquisition to create global leader in B2B weather solutions
OAKVILLE, ON, Oct. 1, 2015 /CNW/ - MeteoGroup, Europe's leading weather solutions business, today announced an agreement to acquire The Weather Network Commercial Services Division (TWNCS) from Pelmorex Media Inc., a company specializing in multi-platform weather, traveler-related consumer services.
"We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of The Weather Network Commercial Services," said Lex Rozenbroek, CEO, MeteoGroup. "By combining MeteoGroup's expertise in providing B2B solutions for weather-critical businesses with TWNCS local knowledge and expertise, we are adding to our position as a leading global player in B2B weather solutions."
MeteoGroup is acquiring TWNCS for its expertise in the Transportation and Energy sectors, as well as its leadership position within the Canadian marketplace. TWNCS provides MeteoGroup with increased capabilities, including precision weather forecasting, products and services tailored to the weather needs of its Canadian clients, around the clock technical and meteorological support and consultative advice and training. It also enables MeteoGroup to expand the sale of its existing B2B product lines such as shipping and insurance in Canada.
TWNCS has provided complete weather solutions to many of Canada's largest public and private sector organizations for the past 20 years. This includes a variety of sectors across Canada such as Transportation, Energy and Natural Resources. TWNCS was part of Pelmorex's The Weather Network. The terms of this transaction were not disclosed.
"The Weather Network's focus is the consumer market whereas MeteoGroup's focus is B2B. These are very different markets," said Pierre Morrissette, Chairman, President & CEO of Pelmorex Media Inc., which owns The Weather Network. "Our primary expertise and core business is the consumer market and we want to be laser-focused on implementing our international strategy for the rapidly growing market segment."
Both Morrissette and Rozenbroek agreed that this transaction marks the beginning of an alliance between the two complementary businesses. "We will have many opportunities to collaborate in the future," they said.
