TORONTO, Oct. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Metro is publishing an exclusive serialized fiction story by prominent writer Douglas Coupland entitled Temp, in the Canadian and global editions, starting on November 4th.
Each weekday, an instalment of Temp will run in Metro's 10-English editions, and at: www.metronews.ca/temp
The story of Temp opens with: "Greetings. My name is Shannon. I'm a temp, but more than that, I'm the future of employment in the Western world. Sure, you may have a job right now, but one day you'll be me."
"When Douglas approached us with his concept for a serialized narrative we jumped on the opportunity for a partnership," says Charlotte Empey Editor-in-Chief of Metro English Canada. "Douglas has been described as possibly the most gifted interpreter of North American pop culture writing today - and Temp more than lives up to his reputation."
"Metro is the tom-toms of the global village," says Douglas Coupland. "It's the new face of old media. It reaches millions of people who devour every word and it all ends up being discussed in lunchrooms, meeting rooms, and dinner tables around the world."
On November 12th, in partnership with the School of Creative Industries at Ryerson University, Metro is holding a free reader event at the Ted Rogers School of Management, downtown Toronto. Hosted by Metro's own man-about-film Richard Crouse, more than 450 people will join us for further discussion of the project, a reading of Temp by Douglas and a book signing. Contests will also be running in parallel to the Temp project. On a national level, readers will be asked to submit a series of promotional codes found in print and online ads to be entered to win the "Ultimate Temp Package". In the local Toronto market, readers can also enter to have the chance to attend a meet-and-greet with Douglas prior to the reader event, a copy of his new book and VIP seating at the event.
