MONTREAL, Nov. 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - In keeping with the Local Purchasing Policy that it adopted last May 1st, Metro today announces the arrival in store of more than 75 new products from Lanaudière. In fact, as a result of the pilot project currently underway in that region, 12 local suppliers will have their products offered in four Metro and two Super C stores in that region.
Over the past few months, Metro has worked closely with le Conseil de développement bioalimentaire de Lanaudière, whose contribution was vital in identifying and assisting the region's agri-food businesses while the project was being implemented. So you'll be seeing various distinctive products such as pumpkin dips, syrups, flours, flower salted caramel and dark chocolate, frozen fruit, ground cherry jam, pasta sauces, etc., on the shelves of the L'Épiphanie, Joliette, Charlemagne and Terrebonne (Moody boulevard) Metro stores as well as in the Joliette and St-Lin-des-Laurentides Super C stores.
"We are delighted with Metro's initiative to put forward products from Lanaudière under this pilot project. We hope that these new agreements will benefit the people of Lanaudière, suppliers, and in a more general way, the socio-economic development of the region" commented Annette Coutu, President of le Conseil de développement bioalimentaire de Lanaudière.
To help people discover these new products, taste samplings will be held next December 21 and 22, from 11:00am to 5:00pm, in the L'Épiphanie and Terrebonne Metro stores, as well as in the Joliette Super C store.
"The first of the three guiding principles on which Metro's policy is based consists of making Metro a prime showcase for regional products. As today's announcement proves, the work that has been done so far in the Lanaudière region is paying off. We can now ensure a greater in-store presence of regional products at a competitive price", said Marie-Claude Bacon, Senior Director, Corporate Affairs Department for Metro.
The products will be clearly identified thanks to the posting of the Goûtez Lanaudière theme colours.
This pilot project is the first in a series of three, which will also begin in the coming months in the Chaudière-Appalaches and Centre-du-Québec regions.
This agreement is in keeping with the spirit of the Local Purchasing Policy announced by Metro last May, one of the three guiding principles of which consists of making Metro the main ally of innovative suppliers. In so doing, Metro affirms its interest in Quebec suppliers who wish and are able to continuously develop their products or production and who show growth potential with respect to distribution.
