Top Women Cyclists from Team Canada to Contest the SPORTSNET.CA Queen's Park

TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - Race organizer and producer Hello Vélo (hellovelo.ca), Toronto's premier performance cycling boutique, today announced the next set of high profile racers who will be contesting the SPORTSNET.CA Queen's Park Grand Prix on September 19, 2010, along with top Canadian pro racer Ryder Hesjedal, announced previously.
Michael Barry, professional cyclist with the UK-based Team Sky and Toronto's favourite son of cycling will be vying for the top prize in front of a home town crowd. "I raced this course years ago," said Barry, "and it is great to see that it is back." Barry is an accomplished writer on the sport of cycling whose book "Le Metier" was published this year.
Steve Bauer will be bringing six of his Team Spidertech racers to Toronto, some of whom will be racing for Team Canada at the upcoming Pro-Tour races in Quebec and Montreal the week before the Queen's Park Grand Prix. Ryan Roth, Francois Parisien, Keven Lacombe, Martin Gilbert, Charly Vivers and Mark Batty will make up the team.
"We are elated that the PRO-AM men's race is shaping up to be the most competitive event to be held in Ontario in a long time," said Paul Parker, owner of Hello Vélo and race producer. "Just as equally exciting is the recent addition of three of Canada's top female cyclists to the start list."
Joelle Numainville, Canada's current national road champion, Heather Logan-Sprenger of Colavita/Baci Women's Cycling and Leah Guloien of the Total Restoration Cycling Team, while usually racing together as part of Team Canada, will all be competing for the top prize of the women's race. "We have worked hard to attract top talent to all races, to make sure that the event is competitive and truly reflects the diversity of talent in Canadian cycling today," added Parker.
Hello Velo also announced that VIP Peloton Passes are still available. A VIP Peloton Pass entitles the holder to a pre-race dinner hosted by Mercatto's Executive Chef Rob Rossi, a seat in the VIP section grand stands, a chance to win a seat in the pace car, a ticket for a draw of a BH G5, the official bike of the Queen's Park Grand Prix and an official souvenir jersey from Hincapie Sportswear. All proceeds will be going towards the programs at Trails Youth Initiatives, a GTA-based charity that works with inner city youth - visit trails.ca)
About the SPORTSNET.CA Queen's Park Grand Prix
The SPORTSNET.CA Queen's Park Grand Prix will feature three distinct races on the roads circling Queen's Park in Toronto. The first race will be a 45 minute Master's Open Race for amateur men, followed by a 60 km Women's Elite Race and an 85 km Men's Pro Am Race, the premier race attracting world class cyclists.
