VANCOUVER, Oct. 14, 2017 /CNW/ - Today, Michael de Jong is delighted to welcome leadership contender Mike Bernier, MLA for Peace River South, as his Campaign Co-Chair.
"My goal in the leadership race has always been a strong BC Liberal Party. I aimed to bring people back to the party, by ensuring that they are being listened to," said Bernier. "This leadership contest is about picking the best person to defeat John Horgan and the NDP in the next election."
"That's why today I am ending my campaign and joining Michael de Jong's team as Co-Chair. He is a team-builder, who will ensure we keep our coalition strong, so we can defeat John Horgan and the NDP. I am excited to join Michael's team and work side-by-side with co-chair Teresa Wat on the campaign trail."
Michael de Jong said: "I am flattered and thankful for the courage that Mike Bernier has shown today. He is committed to making our BC Liberal team a stronger, united coalition, now and into the future."
"Mike Bernier brings a wide range of experience and strength to compliment the talent we are building in our leadership team. With Mike's ideas and energy on our team, we will make sure we connect all British Columbians with the benefits that flow from prosperity. We will do that by defeating John Horgan and the NDP together."
The BC Liberal Party will hold a leadership convention to announce the new leader on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018.
