OTTAWA, Dec. 1, 2015 /CNW/ - The Michener Awards Foundation today welcomed CN as supporting sponsor of the Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Journalism Education.
Russell Mills, Foundation president, said CN has committed $100,000 over four years for the fellowship which supports a mature journalist for a semester as journalist-in-residence at a Canadian university or college journalism department.
"CN's public-spirited donation ensures the stability of the fellowship," he said.
"Since its establishment in 2012, The Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Journalism Education has quickly become Canada's foremost journalism fellowship," said Paul Deegan, Vice-President, Public and Government Affairs, CN. "The Fellowship benefits our community at large and allows journalists dedicated study-leave to enhance their own skills and to mentor the next generation of journalists."
Mr. Mills reminded journalists that applications for both the journalism education and the investigative reporting fellowships will remain open until February 19, 2016. This is also the deadline for entries for the annual prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism.
