Micron Waste CEO to Speak on New International Cannabis Waste Management Standards
VANCOUVER, April 10, 2019 /CNW/ - Micron Waste Technologies Inc. ("Micron" or the "Company") (CSE: MWM, OTC: MICWF, Frankfurt: 7FM2), a leading developer of waste treatment systems for food and cannabis waste, today announced that President & CEO Alfred Wong will address issues surrounding cannabis waste management during a presentation at O'Cannabiz Toronto later this month. Mr. Wong's speech, titled "Cannabis Waste: Solutions to a Growing Problem" will specifically address the development and implementation of new waste disposal guidelines adopted by ASTM International, the globally-recognized leader in the development and delivery of consensus standards. The new standard recognizes the growing environmental liability from cannabinoid contaminated waste discharged under current destruction practices globally.
In October 2018, ASTM International, formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the International Cannabis and Cannabinoids Institute (ICCI) announced a memorandum of understanding to work together on standards for the cannabis industry. ICCI is the first Europe-based partner for ASTM International's cannabis committee, which has grown to more than 500 members worldwide in its first two years.
"These new standards address the rising concern about the impact of resin-contaminated materials entering the environment," said Mr. Wong. "Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to cannabis companies globally, as they develop brands and navigate complex regulatory pathways. Micron's Cannavore is the only system in the world to address compliance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness for the treatment of growers' cannabis waste and adherence to international standards."
The new ASTM standard is the first unified standard globally that creates clear distinctions between different parts of the cannabis plant that should be controlled, and provides guidelines on how to implement best practices for the destruction of controlled waste in compliance with international and environmental law. Micron's Cannavore™ cannabis waste processing system was designed to allow mid- to large-scale growing facilities to manage cannabis waste compliantly, while extracting and reclaiming water.
Micron's Cannavore meets ASTM standards as an acceptable treatment for waste containing resins, also known as cannabinoids, and implements odour controls and wastewater treatment systems to prevent the discharge of resin-contaminated water. Dr. Bob Bhushan, Micron's Chief Technology Officer and a leading international expert in cannabis waste management, was a principal member of the ASTM sub-committee convened to draft new cannabis waste guidelines.
Mr. Wong will speak on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. on the O'Cannabiz Demo Stage. Conference attendees interested in learning more about waste management compliance are asked to visit Micron Waste Technologies Booth #151.
The Company also announces the granting of 1,200,000 options to purchase common stock to employees and consultants, at an exercise price of $0.36, equal to the closing price of the Company's common shares on April 8, 2019. The Options are issued for a term of five (5) years, pursuant to the Company's incentive stock option plan.
