Mines - Minister Martine Ouellet promotes Québec and its mining sector at PDAC 2014 in Toronto
TORONTO, March 3, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Québec's Minister of Natural Resources, Martine Ouellet, was in Toronto on March 2 and 3 for the Annual Convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). She took advantage of the opportunity to talk about the importance of mining activity for the Québec Government.
"The mining sector provides nearly 45,000 jobs, and is a pillar of economic development for Québec," said Minister Ouellet. "Our Government has taken concrete, structural steps to support key mining projects. As well as creating a stable and clear investment context that is of benefit to everyone, we hope to set an example in terms of responsible mine development. The adoption of the Mining Act in December 2013 is a good example of this."
The Minister of Natural Resources spoke to more than 300 people about the importance of mining activity for the Québec Government, at a meeting for mining industry stakeholders with an interest in Québec, on the fringes of the PDAC Convention in Toronto. She will also be making a speech at a PDAC information session on the modernization of Québec's mining development legislative framework, business opportunities and current projects.
The PDAC Convention is one of the largest mining conventions in the world, attracting more than 30,000 participants from 125 countries. It brings together roughly 1,300 exhibitors, including 60 governments. Québec is well-represented by its pavilion, which receives more than 10,000 visitors every year and is staffed by specialists from the Ministère des Ressources naturelles, who promote Québec's mining potential and the conditions it offers for mining projects.
"Québec is recognized internationally for its expertise, the quality of its workforce and its knowledge of the territory, with an extraordinary database accessible to all. The PDAC convention is an excellent opportunity to publicize Québec, its mineral potential and its business potential," concluded Minister Ouellet.
