Mining Association of Canada Welcomes the Launch of the CSR Counsellor Review
Mechanism
OTTAWA, Oct. 20 /CNW/ - The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) welcomes the launch of a new review mechanism by the Extractive Sector Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Counsellor. The mechanism will apply to all Canadian mining, oil and gas companies in their operations outside Canada. Representatives of the Canadian Mining Industry appreciated the opportunity to participate in the public consultations that informed the development of the new review process.
MAC looks forward to continued collaboration with the office of the CSR Counsellor to ensure that its review process leads to constructive dialogue, improves CSR performance and supports tangible results on the ground. "While Canadian Mining Companies are global leaders in the area of CSR, they also recognize the need for continuous improvement in this area; processes like that of the office of the CSR Counsellor, which are grounded in internationally recognized performance standards (including IFC Performance Standards, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, the Global Reporting Initiative for Multinational Enterprises) have the potential to promote and facilitate this continuous improvement." says Gordon Peeling, President and CEO of MAC.
Based in Ottawa, the Mining Association of Canada is the national organization for the Canadian Mining industry. Its members are engaged in mineral exploration, mining, smelting, refining and semi-fabrication.
