Mining executives to discuss innovation imperative to secure industry's future

TORONTO, Feb. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canada Mining Innovation Council (CMIC) will once again bring together senior decision makers, experts and leaders from the mining industry, academia and government at its second annual Signature Event to be held on February 12, 2013 at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto.

Presenters will include the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labour and executives from Natural Resources Canada, Barrick, Cameco, Rio Tinto, Franco-Nevada, Planetary Resources, CRC Ore, and Scotiabank. Presentations and a panel discussion will consider the importance of innovation to the future of Canadian mining.

Dialogue will focus on developing the innovation agenda that Canada's mining industry needs to implement in order to remain sustainable in the face of serious challenges such as declining ore reserves and grades, increased costs, increasingly deep and remote mines, and an imminent labour shortage. In the words of one presenter, to remain competitive this industry will have to "innovate or die."
