TORONTO, Sept. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today had meetings with local business leaders, corporate executives and community decision-makers to discuss ways to promote women's leadership and participation on boards of directors.
"Women are a vital part of our country's economy, representing about half of Canada's workforce and consistently proving their value in the management ranks of businesses large and small," said Minister Ambrose, "Increasing opportunities for women to serve on corporate boards makes good business sense for Canadian women and for Canada's economy."
Economic Action Plan 2012 announces the creation of an advisory council of leaders from the private and public sectors to promote women's participation on corporate boards. Minister Ambrose will work with the private sector to promote the participation of women on boards, to champion their leadership and to link corporations to a network of women with professional skills and experience.
