EDMONTON, Sept. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today made a keynote address at the one-day Women's Symposium - Building Leadership and Community, emphasizing Government of Canada support for women in leadership roles.
"The economy remains our government's top priority, and our Economic Action Plan 2012 reflects that by supporting job creation, economic growth and long-term prosperity," said Minister Ambrose. "Having more women in leadership and decision-making roles in every sector of society, including in municipal politics, helps us realize a brighter future for all and how women can have a hand in creating it."
Hosted by the City of Edmonton, the Women's Symposium - Building Leadership and Community provides a forum for networking, learning and sharing the experience of leadership among women. The gathering is also geared toward empowering women to seek out leadership roles and take more active roles within their community.
Since 2007, through the Women's Program of Status of Women Canada, more than $16.5 million in funding has been approved for projects that promote women's leadership and democratic participation. By working at the community level, the Government of Canada is improving the lives of women and girls across Canada.
