Minister Ambrose invites applications to the Women's Program
OTTAWA, June 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, invited applications to the Women's Community Fund component of the Women's Program.
"Our Government is committed to continue helping women across Canada through effective programming at the community level," said Minister Ambrose. "I am proud that our action is ensuring that programs funded through Status of Women are having a direct impact on the lives of girls and women across the country."
Starting with the 2010-2011 fiscal year, Status of Women Canada will be accepting and reviewing applications to the Women's Community Fund on an ongoing basis, year-round.
Applications will also be reviewed by a departmental assessment committee comprised of officials from Status of Women Canada as well as invited officials from other relevant federal departments such as Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Public Safety Canada, Health Canada, and Justice Canada to introduce a broader representation of areas of expertise and identify potential funding partners. These changes will allow organizations to work more collaboratively with Status of Women Canada to create the best possible environment for organizations to succeed in advancing equality for women in Canada.
"Working to eradicate violence against women and girls, especially those in remote, Aboriginal, and immigrant communities, is a top priority for me as Minister for the Status of Women," said Minister Ambrose. "I will act as a strong, determined voice pushing for safe communities and environments for Canadian women. I look forward to receiving applications for projects that work to protect and support victims of violence and provide them with real opportunities and positive, life-changing results."
Status of Women Canada is proud to continue to fund projects across the country that promote the full participation of women in the economic, social and democratic life of Canada. Last year, through the Women's Community Fund, the Government of Canada supported 78 projects that positively impact the lives of thousands of women. These projects address ending violence against women and girls, improving their economic security and prosperity, and encouraging them in leadership and decision-making roles. Application forms and an Information Guide for the 2010-2011 fiscal year will be available by June 30, 2010 on the Status of Women Canada website at www.swc-cfc.gc.ca.
