SIDNEY, BC, June 16, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today congratulated the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada at the close of their annual convention, held this year in Sidney, British Columbia from June 12 to June 16.
"I applaud the contributions of this inspiring grassroots organization," said Minister Ambrose. "The Federated Women's Institutes of Canada provides a strong voice for rural and farm women in Canada and serves as a vital link to rural women's organizations throughout the world."
The minister congratulated Ms. Marie Kenny on her election as National President, Federated Women's Institutes of Canada, noting her valuable participation earlier this year on the Canadian delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, held in New York from February 27 to March 9, 2012.
The voice of rural women from all parts of Canada, the Federated Women's Institutes was formed to provide consistency throughout provincial Women's Institutes and to call for necessary reforms. The organization, which met for the first time in Winnipeg in 1919, is dedicated to personal development, family life and community action.
