LÉVIS, QC, July 4, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Member of Parliament for Lévis, Bellechasse and Les Etchemins, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the organizers of the Twilight Concert, which is held annually at the Lévis Forts National Historic Site. Funding of up to $19,350 has been allocated for the 2013 concert, which will be held on July 20 and pay special tribute to Korean War Veterans.
"The Twilight Concert is an event that brings residents of Lévis and the surrounding area together," said Minister Blaney. "The Twilight Concert is not only an impressive performance that is fun to attend, but also an opportunity for members of the military community, Veterans and citizens to connect. The concert is an expression of our gratitude to the Veterans who have passed away and those who are still with us."
The Twilight Concert is organized by the Fondation du Mémorial des militaires. It is an annual event for this region's population, featuring the Changing of the Guard Band performing military, popular and classical music selections. The audience will be in for a treat with a spectacular fireworks show and a performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, accompanied by four guns of the 6th Field Artillery Regiment.
The Community Engagement Partnership Fund is a program that provides funding to non-profit organizations, educational institutions and other groups interested in planning remembrance initiatives. Applications for funding may be submitted at any time during the year. 2013 is the Year of the Korean War Veteran.
