Ottawa, July 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada continues to move open and digital government forward, both internationally and at home.
The President of the Treasury Board, the Honourable Scott Brison, today announced he will participate in the 2018 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit hosted by the Government of Georgia from July 17 to July 19, continuing Canada's efforts to make governments more open and accountable.
The President will take the opportunity to highlight Canada's open government leadership and join over 70 leading governments to explore the themes of civic engagement, anti-corruption and public service delivery. While at the Summit in Tbilisi, the President will participate in panels on open and digital government and feminist open government, as well as meet with counterparts in a series of bilateral meetings.
Canada joined the OGP in 2012. Since then, the Government of Canada has strengthened open government at home by developing and delivering 3 National Action Plans in collaboration with citizens and civil society. Canada is currently developing its fourth plan.
Following the completion of the Summit, Canada will seek to strengthen global efforts on open government by taking on the role of lead government chair of the Partnership in October 2018.
Quote
"At a time when democratic governments around the world must struggle to maintain their relevance with citizens, Canada is working at home and internationally to move open and digital government forward. If we are to make the most of empowering our citizens through open government, it means continually learning from best practices and principles, and sharing our own experiences with others."
