LONDON, ON, Nov. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today joined London-area members of Parliament Susan Truppe and Ed Holder, former London Police Service chief and Honourary Lieutenant-Colonel Murray Faulkner, and Canadian Armed Forces members at the 31 Service Battalion mess dinner in London, Ontario, to mark Veterans' Week 2013.
"Our Government is dedicated to commemorating the sacrifices and achievements of the brave Canadians whose legacy is the peace and security we continue to enjoy today," said Minister Fantino. "I commend the members of 31 Service Battalion for their service to Canada, and thank them for their efforts in honouring and remembering our Veterans."
The formal mess dinner was hosted by Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher W. Poole, Commander of 31 Service Battalion, an Army Reserve subordinate unit of 31 Canadian Brigade Group, headquartered in London, Ontario. A unique element of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Reserve Force, 31 Service Battalion lives up to its unit motto, "Service Second to None," through its primary task of providing combat service support soldiers to the CAF to augment Canada's military for both domestic and expeditionary operations.
This Veterans' Week, your challenge is to show you remember. Wearing a poppy, attending a local Remembrance Day ceremony and changing your Facebook profile picture to a poppy are all ways to remember and honour Veterans.
